Fisher Street Park Relocation Project

Part of the East College Park development plan

As part of the City of Raleigh Housing and Neighborhoods Department's East College Park redevelopment initiative, Fisher Street Park was relocated from its original location at 328 North Fisher Street to a new site at the corner of North Fisher and Pender Streets.

Construction of the new park was completed in summer 2022, with landscape installation finalized in fall 2022. The reimagined Fisher Street Park provides a variety of recreational and community amenities, including a playground, basketball court, picnic shelter, seating areas, trellis swings, and enhanced landscaping. The park also features public art installations that celebrate the history, culture, and residents of the College Park neighborhood.

The project additionally included improvements to Pender Street Park, also known as John Stokes Garden, located at the corner of Pender and North Carver Streets. Enhancements included the installation of a new walkway, expanded seating areas, and upgraded landscaping, creating an inviting community gathering space.

History

The East College Park redevelopment project is a key component of a City Council-approved strategy to increase the supply of affordable housing in East Raleigh. The plan balances new housing development with investments in public spaces that enhance neighborhood livability and community identity.

To support these objectives, Fisher Street Park, originally developed in the late 1960s, was relocated from its original site to a more centrally accessible location within the neighborhood. The former park site was identified for single-family housing development, advancing the broader goals of the East College Park housing initiative.

The project was funded through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and administered by the City of Raleigh Housing & Neighborhoods Department.
